Towards the end of last year, Jo Lawrence - a Twinning member and French teacher at Oldbury Wells School - succeeded in launching a Year 10 e-pen pal project with Collège Sainte Jeanne d'Arc in Thiers. It transpired that the French students were coming to London this March, so Jo arranged for her students to meet them at the Institut Français.

After a long coach journey to the capital, followed by a quick packed-lunch, the students (22 from Bridgnorth and 36 from Thiers) settled down to watch the classic Petit Nicolas, a humorous adaptation of the children's book written by René Goscinny.

Following the film, students put their speaking skills to the test and got to know each other better through directed tasks to aid their learning and grow their confidence.

What a fantastic opportunity for all of the young people involved. Learning a language is also about discovering other cultures and seeing how others live. Thanks to their teachers, they were brought together and given a chance to apply their learning to real life. The Bridgnorth and District Twinning Association  paid for the cinema tickets for The Oldbury Wells students, as we want these links to flourish.

Well done to everyone involved!
